Narrative description
This home is located on a nice residential street in
a town of about 600
people. It is within walking
distance of some typical small town
shops, the
Post Office, the local newspaper and a couple of
convenience
stores.
The house itself is in very good condition because
the elderly owners
have always maintained it by
repairing or replacing things before they
break.
Last year, they replaced the deck because they
thought it
was getting "old". And now, they have
just redone half of the roof
even though there
were no leaks.
They take care of the interior in the same manner.
The lady of the
house performs a "daily dusting"
ritual. She even wipes every pane
of glass in each
of the French doors.
Now, on the other hand, the house is really too big
for them and they
have closed off one upstairs
bedroom and dedicated it to storage. They call it
the "junk room". That room has not been
maintained at all. It has cracked and
falling plaster
in the ceiling and some of the walls. (Yes, it
is real
plaster -- not sheetrock.)
Counting that bedroom, there are three bedrooms
and two bathrooms.
However, for their own
convenience, they have used the living room as a
nice large bedroom on the first floor. In other
words, they have made it into a 4-bedroom house.
Long ago, the upstairs was a rented apartment with
a separate outside staircase. That staircase has
been removed but the house still has a kitchen on
the second floor. In other words, this home has
two kitchens. However, the upstairs kitchen has
only very modest appliances and no counter space.
