Narrative:
This property is only 5 minutes from Buggs Island
Lake in Southern Virginia. There are 2 public boat
launching sites within 3 miles.
It is about 75 miles South of Richmond by I-85
and US 58. That makes it about 4 hours from
Washington, DC and, since it's on the border with
North Carolina, only 80 miles from Raleigh, NC.
It can serve as a great weekend get-away or a
retirement retreat. It's a perfect place for parking
a boat or an RV.
There is a bold creek running right through the
middle of this property. That creek is what I
would call a "wade across" creek. It's big enough
that a previous owner installed a steel foot bridge
to facilitate walking to the back half of the 8 acres.
The creek obviously floods occasionally, but there
are several small hills that could provide good
home sites safely above the highest water level.
There is a small open field near the road, but it's
almost all wooded with fairly large hardwoods
and a few pines. While most of the trees are less
than a foot thick, some are 2 feet in diameter and
70-80 feet tall.
There is no well and no septic system. A soil
consultant has determined that -- like many of the
other lots near the lake -- this property will require
a so-called alternative septic system.
Buggs Island Lake, also known as Lake Gaston
or the John H. Kerr Reservoir, is the largest lake
in Virginia. It is located on the border between
Virginia and North Carolina. The shore line is
nearly 800 miles and the lake itself is 50,000 acres.
